The Hall County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened on June 6 at around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cleveland Highway and King Street. A statement from the sheriff's office said Eric Domingo Romero, age 31, was driving east on King Street in a Honda Pilot while under the influence of alcohol when he ran a stop sign at the intersection.

Romero's car then struck a Dodge Charger that was headed south on Cleveland Highway.

"(Romero) intentionally drove into (the Charger) in an attempt to harm himself," the sheriff's office said.

The driver of the Charger suffered minor injuries, but the passenger in that vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries authorities described as "serious." Romero was hospitalized, but authorities said he did not suffer any physical injuries.

After being hospitalized, Romero was arrested on Friday, June 12, on a list of charges, including driving under the influence, reckless driving, aggravated battery and not having a driver's license or properly registered tag. As of Monday morning, June 15, he remained in the Hall County Jail without bond.
